Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

220px-Throne_of_Glass_series51mwJJKf4GL._SX345_BO1,204,203,200_1 – A Popular Book or series that you didn’t like.

Hmm, I still kind of like this series, but Throne of Glass because every time it’s brought up, and I’m, ehh, nope. Or also The Raven Cycle, I don’t like this series,  I only read the first two, and cannot continue with it.

2 – A Popular Book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.

This is popular, and some people do like it, and some don’t but it’s either Shatter Me or The Mortal Instruments. I feel like more and more people are saying they don’t like these series, but I love them so much.

3 – A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like.

I honestly cannot think of a couple or love triangle, so I guess I have to skip this one.

4 -A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for.

Science Fiction, I just have never really gotten into the whole concept, even with movies and tv shows, there’s just no appeal.

$_575 – A popular or beloved character that you do not like.

Oooh, this is a hard one. I think the character that I don’t like all too much is, Isabelle from the Mortal Instruments. She has her moments, but her character doesn’t really do much for me.

6 – A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.

Maurene Goo, She’s a newer author, I’ve only read one book from her, and although I’ve heard good things about the newest book, I have a feeling her writing hasn’t changed all that much.

7 – A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing. (examples “lost princess”, corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)

I think Insta-love, I used to read all kinds of books with that trope, but now it doesn’t make sense, it always seems rushed and typically it isn’t written well. I will say that some authors can write Insta-love very well, but now it’s rare that it happens.

8 – A popular series that you have no interest in reading.

There’s a few that I don’t plan on reading which are, The Maze Runner, The Selection, and Beautiful Creatures. They just don’t seem all that appealing to me.

71mzsqke5aL9 – The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

This movie is one of my all time favorite movies, which is, The Longest Ride, originally written by Nicholas Sparks. I read the book after watching the movie, and I don’t think that has any effect on why I liked the movie better. I think the movie didn’t a much better way of showing the old man’s life than the book. I have read a few other novels by Nicholas Sparks, and I think the movies are typically better than his writing.

Meh Book Tag

1 – What is your “Meh” book rating

About 3 stars. Meh is more of “It wasn’t terrible but wasn’t good either” so it gives a rating basically in the middle.

81tWhFdQroL2 – Book series that started “Meh” but ended up being really good

I think for this one would be Shatter Me because I read the first book and it was okay, and the more I read, the more I wanted to read the next books, and since I haven’t read Restore Me, I guess I can’t exactly say that it’s entirely good, but I have high hopes for the next one.

220px-Throne_of_Glass_series3 – Book series that started good but ended “Meh”

This book series isn’t officially finished, but it almost is. I would say Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas because it was promising but her books are very long, and dry. It’s detailed and well written but it’s so tiring reading them. I haven’t picked up Tower of Dawn because I’m not a fan of Chaol, and trying to read a whole 700 pages book that if it continues the cycle of dryness, it will be so hard for me to read.

4 – An overhyped author you think is just “Meh”

Honestly, probably Sarah J. Maas. She has really good writing and plot ideas, but sometimes there isn’t enough character personality to it, or vice versa. I don’t think it’s consistent. I’m hoping as I continue on with the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, that it isn’t a let down of Throne of Glass.

9780525478812_custom-7eb6cc16a8a3f2266865895e1718ac9e9d6232e0-s6-c305 – A book others think is “Meh” But you love

The Fault in our Stars is considered over-hyped and not that good because the way the characters talk is unrealistic with their metaphors. I loved this book when I first read this, and maybe I would change my mind if I read it now, but since I haven’t I’m sticking with that current opinion.

awake-by-natasha-preston.jpg6 – A book so “Meh” that you forgot the plot

I think for this one I’ll say Awake by Natasha Preston. I read this book a while ago and I think this book was a little messy, and at points, I would forget what the whole point of her going to the camp or whatever it was called.

7 – A “Meh” character that could easily be replaced

I know I keep referring to Sarah J. Maas’s books, but I guess I have just good examples. I think Manon or Chaol could be replaced. Or maybe just have different character personalities. Manon, I didn’t really see a point in adding her into the plot at all, so I never really cared about her story. And Chaol is just not good.

51stviwczzl-_sx338_bo1204203200_8 – An amazing book with a “Meh” cover

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things; I don’t particularly like this cover but I have no idea what it should be changed into.

Campfire Book Tag

I’m sorry for not posting a book tag last week, my laptop was having some issues and wanted to get them fixed before I go back to college so I didn’t have it for a week. I’m back now and decided to give all of you a somewhat exciting tag!

download1. Build the tent: a book you had to read that ended up being a drag.

This answer isn’t technically that I had to read but have wanted to for some time, and that was Perks of Being a Wallflower. If you’ve seen other posts of mine, you have seen that I quite dislike this book, it was a drag but also a disappointment

97815951480322. Build a Fire: A book you were proud of finishing

The Ember in the Ashes, I enjoyed this book a lot, but I thought this book was very slow paced that I felt as though it was really hard to push through the book, so I’m glad that I finished it

71Ha8X7iAjL3. Roasted Marshmallow: a mushy sweet book you couldn’t help but devour

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, I read this book in one sitting, and I loved it, and it was a very good LGBTQ+ novel about life and relationships

27833670 4. Gone Fishing: a book that had you hooked by the first chapter.

Dark Matter; This is a book I don’t think I’ve really dwelled upon on this blog, but I found this book very fascinating and mind compelling that I was immediately sucked into this story

5. Skipping rocks: a book or series you DNF’d

The Raven Cycle, I read the first couple books in the series and decided this series is definitely not for me.

51stviwczzl-_sx338_bo1204203200_6. Campfire songs: a book so good you are always found singing it’s praise

This is my all time favorite book which is, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things. This book is way underhyped and needs to have more people read it

915XZDoqAQL7. The Night Sky: a book that made you think deeply about an aspect in the world

All We Have Left; I think this book opened my eyes more to how the world has really changed from the 9/11 attack and how society views different races, and other people’s way of living, and how it’s fairly negative in the aftermath.

51VFrzslYiL._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_8. The Teardown: a book that’s ending was bittersweet

This is a recent read for me, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This ending was how it should have been, it wrapped up nicely, but also left me feeling like I needed more, even though there wasn’t going to be.

Last Ten Books Tag

41LPBRNaVCL._SX355_BO1,204,203,200_ 1) The last book you didn’t finish?

I think that has to be The Hunger Games, otherwise, I finish the books I start

2) The last book you re-read?

I don’t think that I have fully re-read a book recently enough for me to remember, but I have read a few chapters in, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things.

51S--ZQ9+RL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_3) The last book you bought?

A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab

I don’t think I’ve said I read a book and actually didn’t unless it was in high school when I didn’t read many of the assigned books

5) The last book you wrote in the margins of?

I never wrote in the margins of a book before, unless it was a textbook, but I have annotated a book using tabs, and the last book I did that too, was The Perks of Being a Wallflower

6) The last book you had signed?

I’ve never gone to get a book signed, but I want to eventually

7) The last book you lost?

I would remember that, but If I lost a book, I probably wouldn’t remember about it if it wasn’t in my eyesight

31741934._SS1708_8) The last book you had to replace?

Three Dark Crowns, I had bought this book but as I took it out of the box, it was damaged so bad it would have been impossible to read

9) The last book you had an argument over?

I don’t think I’ve ever officially had an argument with someone about books because I don’t have people around me that read, but once I find a book I dislike, I rant about it for a while

10) The last book you couldn’t get hold of?

I can’t think of anything for this question

Playlist Book Tag; Pray For the Wicked

Hello All! I’m back with another Book Tag!!!

I added youtube links to the song titles, so if you are unfamiliar with this particular album, or wanted to hear these songs again, you could.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of these songs or videos! I have linked them from other YouTubers and using these only as references and for fun. *****

518zN4ZSZiL._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_ *(F*** A) Silver Lining* – A book you didn’t expect to like but loved OR a not so great book that had a silver lining that kept you hooked

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue; I thought this was going to be just another mediocre book, even though this book was pretty hyped when I read it, but I’m thankful that I chose to read it anyway because it’s so good.

thWIV2VZWZ*(Say Amen) Saturday Night* – Either a book you were thankful was over OR A book you could spend all Saturday night reading

The book that I was thankful to be over has to be Empire of Storms because it was sooo boring and slow. I was dreading the 700-page book from the start because I feel like the longer her books have gotten, the drier the content seems to get. I did like most of what this book entitled, but it’s just too long.

51RofZNoPjL._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_*Hey Look Ma, I Made It* – A book you felt accomplished for finishing

This isn’t exactly what it’s asking but after reading We Were Liars, I’m grateful to have finished it, I was considering to DNF it in the beginning, but after that ending, I felt as though it was worth reading.

clockwork-angel*High Hopes* – A book you had high hopes for but fell flat

Clockwork Angel; I was so excited to read this because it was a different version of the shadowhunter world, it takes place in somewhere I like reading about and I love that time period. I still liked this series, it just wasn’t what I was expecting.

The Liar Society by Lisa and Laura Roecker*Roaring 20s* – A book that makes you feel nostalgic

The Liar Society, it makes me feel nostalgic in a sense of in my childhood, I read in spurts and so when I did read, I read a lot of books that I enjoyed. This book reminds of the few times I could be sucked into a book and was grasped to the end.

s-l300*Dancing’s Not A Crime* – A book that booktube makes you feel is a crime for loving/hating

I think the Shatter Me series has been getting less hype and more negative reviews lately so I feel like anyone of these books fit into this category.

city-of-heavenly-fire-cover*One of The Drunks* – A book you got drunk on that left you in a book hangover

Honestly, I’d have to say City of Bones or City of Heavenly Fire, because I got really sucked into them, and for the last book in the series nearly crushed me, and I didn’t know what to do with myself once it was over.

Believearexic_drawn maze concepts_final.indd*The Overpass* – A Book that deals with a difficult subject matter

Believ-a-rexic, this books has some heavy subject matter, it talks about eating disorders, suicide, substance abuse, and depression. I think it does a very well job of explaining all these heavy matters.

*King of The Clouds* – Your go-to book to lift you up when you’re feeling down

If I’m being honest, I don’t re-read books as often as I would like to, so when I’m feeling down, I probably would read the book I’m currently reading, or go on youtube or something.

harry_potter_and_the_sorcerers_stone*Old Fashioned* – Your favorite book published before the year 2000

This was pretty hard to find a book made before the 2000’s that I’ve actually read, but then I realized that I had read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, so there’s at least one that I’ve liked.

51stviwczzl-_sx338_bo1204203200_*Dying in LA* – A book that you love that is underhyped

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things. I know this book was, I believe one of 2016’s top book for Book of the Month, but I still don’t find many booktubers and bloggers mentioning this book.

Recommendation Book Tag

I decided this week that I wanted to do a short book tag, but still, do something fun!

41qA7M5LzGL._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_1 – Recommend the best book that you read last month.

The book that I’m going to recommend is Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi, but since that is part of a sequel, if you have not read any Shatter Me books, you should do that as well

51stviwczzl-_sx338_bo1204203200_2 – Recommend an old favorite.

Most of favorites are from last year, but one of the first books I read was All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood

3 – Recommend a non-fiction.

I don’t read non-fiction very often, but out of the ones that I have read, I would recommend A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer

518zN4ZSZiL._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_4 – Recommend a book that will help people escape.

The one that I recommend is The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue because this is just a cute, fluffy, historical fiction that can escape from reality

Potato Book Tag

1- RAW POTATO – they’re raw ok, but they can become whatever you wish: a character with the potential to be anything they wanted

Simon from the Mortal Instruments series; I don’t want to give spoilers but at the end, he $_57had the power to turn himself into whatever he wanted…because of you know

2- MASHED POTATOES – it goes well with anything or alone: a character that would get along with anyone, in any book, in any world

Honestly, I think Simon from the Mortal Instruments because he has this awkward personality that he can talk to people, maybe not confidently but it’s something. He also is less intimidating to people so I think that makes him a more open person to talk to.

queen-of-shadows-670x1024thWIV2VZWZ3- BAKED POTATOES – delicious also thanks to their filling: a book or series that is packed with information but it’s still enjoyable

I have to say either Queen of Shadows or Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas because there is so much that happens in these books that sometimes it can be a bit heavy with information and action but overall I still liked reading it and wanted to continue on with the series

$_574- FRENCH FRIES – you can’t stop eating them once you’ve started: a book or series you couldn’t put down

This has to be the Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare. I read this entire series in about a week, it was so good.

download5- CHIPS – they are potatoes but not “real” potatoes, they’ve been processed too much: a book or character that is labeled/label themselves as something they’re not

I have an unpopular opinion but I think that Perks of Being a Wallflower is considered to be a classic, but I disagree with that

97801475138786- BOILED POTATOES – plain. would need some condiments but what?: a book that wasn’t either bad or good and what was lacking in your opinion to make it better

A Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh. I wrote in this book review that it lacked in character development and world building.

518zN4ZSZiL._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_7- POTATO SOUP – will always make you feel better: anti-reading slump book

I have to say the Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee because this book is very fun and enjoyable to read

71Ha8X7iAjL8- GNOCCHI – a foreign potato recipe: a diverse book or character

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe; this book deals with a lot of coming of age, homosexuality, and realism

518zN4ZSZiL._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_9- ROASTED POTATOES – crunchy outside, soft inside: a character that goes through hardships but stays soft inside

I think Monty from the Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue because he has a hard time fitting in at home, along with the trip, the people they are forced to talk with aren’t very nice to him, and he struggles with an almost unrequited love, and he still remains himself

51stviwczzl-_sx338_bo1204203200_10: FAV POTATO: pick your fav type of potato, create your own question and answer it yourself – feel free to pick from the previous ones but still create a new question or give another different answer!

10.1: HASHBROWNS – A book that ripped you to shreds but ultimately put you back together

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things; I don’t even think I need to explain

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

OH MY. There are so many books I still need to read. I plan to catch up in the ACOTAR series, start the Arc of a Scythe series, continue on with the Lunar Chronicles and whatever other book comes my way that I want to read.

Rating: 3 Stars

“It’s horrible being ashamed of someone you care about; it eats away at you. And if you let it get to you, if you give up the fight and surrender, eventually that shame turns to hate.”

I heard about this book a couple times and thought the plot was an interesting idea because it dealt with incest, more so with brother and sister.

I thought the story was pretty well thought out, the mother practically abandoned her children, leaving the older teenagers to take care of the younger ones. It is common that happens a lot in today’s society.

I thought that Lochan and Maya did a good job of handling their rambunctious younger siblings, even when one of the siblings turned to be a reckless teen, and refused to listen to either of them.

The problem that I had with this book was that the characters seemed immature in a sense that the way they talked didn’t sound how they normally would. It also seemed to be that the relationship between Lochan and Maya escalated, but it kept going back and forth a lot and it was annoying.

“You can close your eyes to the things you do not want to see, but you cannot close your heart to the things you do not want to feel.”

The way that Lochan talked seemed a bit too mature for his age, even though he turned eighteen, he talked as if his character was much older as well.

As I said before, Lochan and Maya’s relationship kept going back and forth all throughout the book, of “I love you but this isn’t right”, but would continue to do the same thing, and they changed their mind almost every chapter.

The ending for me was a little disappointing. I know that incest isn’t accepted anywhere so it would be odd if they ended up together but the way it happened because when they got caught by their mother, they thought of a plan, which Lochan didn’t follow through, and what happened after that was very depressing, but I guess I can say that it wasn’t predicted.

Overall, this book was just okay. There were some aspects of the storyline that I liked, but how the writing style was especially the way the characters talked wasn’t what for me.

“At the end of the day, it’s about how much you can bear, how much you can endure. Being together, we harm nobody; being apart, we extinguish ourselves.”
