First Sentence Challenge

Hello! I hope you all have been having a great week. I have decided to do a harder challenge for myself, and test how well I really know my books. I wanted to do this challenge not only test myself but also make a video for it. I found it hard to make it as a post because a transcript of what was happening seemed boring and awkward to write a play by play.

So, I decided to create a video with my boyfriend, Eric helping me do this challenge. I also have been feeling as though my blog posts haven’t grasped my sense of personality the way I want others to view me. I think it gets hidden within my writing style so I felt that doing a video would bring out my personality more but also be able to do this challenge and make it so it’s not boring as just a blog post.

I want to make myself clear if the video quality isn’t very good because this is my first attempt to make a video with my camera. I have taken pictures for my blog with it but never video, so setting up audio, editing, and such have been very new with me but I still wanted to allow myself to learn.

I also had an issue while filming; I lost some footage, and I cannot figure out why so the last half of the video will be of us wearing different clothing and different lighting because I wanted to finish the challenge for you guys.

**This sort of challenge is not my own, I have watched many videos of other people doing the First Sentence Challenge. Please let me know what you think and comment below if you want to see more videos!**

With that long ramble, I hope you enjoy this video:

My Boyfriend Guesses Book Plots

I have recently watched a YouTube video of this girl trying to get her boyfriend to guess the plot of popular books just by showing them the cover. So, I thought it’d be interesting to have my boyfriend do this challenge as well since he isn’t into books all too much. I think he did alright, but some were pretty far off.

51eQl+NfmFL._SX351_BO1,204,203,200_Book Title: One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

His Response: I think the book is about someone, probably a friend, has died/been murdered. Everyone in the friend’s group has a story to tell but none of them exactly align with one another. So someone in the friend’s group had something to do with the death/murder, it could even be more than just one person even though the title says “One of Us is Lying”.

Correct Response: A Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars story, where these five students end up in detention, but in one mishap and one of them dies before the ambulance gets there. It doesn’t stop there, the four left from detention has been posted about their dirty secrets from the boy who died. So, the mystery is about who killed him because it was no accident.

61jxikrbn3L._SX334_BO1,204,203,200_Book Title: Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

His Response: I think this book is about living life dangerously. There is a quote on the top of the cover that says “The greatest risk is not taking one”. The artwork also has small sceneries of things from normally associated with vacations (i.e. airplanes, sea life, birds, tropical plants). So the characters are probably doing some crazy stuff feeling the thrill of any danger that awaits them.

Correct Response: Maddy has a disease where she’s allergic to the outside world, so she’s forced to be locked inside her house all the time. She sees that a family has moved in next door, and she has eye contact with a boy named, Olly. She predicts that she will end up falling in love, but she also feels held back from not being able to leave for the outside world.

81tWhFdQroLBook Title: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

His Response: I think this book is about a powerful woman, either a queen or a warrior of some kind, who has been corrupted. On the cover, there is a quote that is crossed out saying “My touch is lethal” but then says “My touch is power” after it. So she may have gone from wanting to use her “touch” as a way to show dominance and strike fear, but now she has the thirst for power.

Correct Response: Juliette is locked up because she has dangerous powers; her touch is lethal. She’s ready to escape and get revenge on Warner, the man responsible for her capture. She meets Adam, someone she’s forced to be roommates with, and she realizes that she knew him during school before it was destroyed, so they both plan for freedom.

514XGJE1F2L._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Book Title: The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

His Response: Due to the quote on the top of the book saying, “She came for revenge. Will she stay for love?” I want to say that the book is about a woman who is going after someone for revenge but ends up falling in love with them instead. So she is stuck whether she would want to get her revenge (presumably kill the person) or pursue some kind of romantic relationship.

Correct Response: Whomever the Prince marries, she dies the next day. Shahrzad’s friend marries him, and unfortunately dies, and she takes upon the task of marrying the prince to get revenge for her death. Unusually, she wakes up the next morning and realizes that she hasn’t been killed. While she tries to avenge the death of her friend, she finds herself falling in love with the enemy.

51IbOdKBPcL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Book Title: Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

His Response: I believe that this book is about someone who is being hunted down and has a very small chance of survival. The quote on the top of the book states, “A million ways to die. One way to live.” so whatever this person got themselves into, could be the end of them.

Correct Response: This is set in different zones, the one where Aria lives, basically inside a bubble, in Reverie. She must face a difficult decision once her mother goes missing. She meets Perry, a savage, living outside her dome in search of someone as well, and as long as they work together, the sooner they’ll find their answers.
