It’s that time of year again! I’ve only read 13 books, so I’m a little bummed about that. However, I set my goal for 25 books this year, and I’m already 2 books ahead of schedule so that makes me feel a bit better!
Let me know down in the comments what your goals are for the rest of the year!
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019
A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019.
The only sequel I read this year was Defy Me and it wasn’t the greatest. I gave it 3 out of 5 stars; it wasn’t the strongest book out of the series.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.
I have this on request for my library so I’ll be reading this very soon. Once I read the synopsis, I was intrigued to read this because I think this will be a very impactful but yet lighthearted read, so I’m definitely looking forward to reading it.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.
I haven’t really been caught up with recent releases all that much beyond the recent couple of months. However, I will want to read Children of Virtue and Vengeance when it comes out. So, I’ll be waiting for this one for the next 6 months.
5. Biggest disappointment.
Definitely Defy Me. After I got hooked in the Shatter Me series, I was excited for each book, and I thought we were going to get our questions answered, but since nothing really happened, it just left off with more questions, unfortunately.
6. Biggest surprise.
I heard very good things about this book. The synopsis sounded really interesting, and decided to give it a try. As I read it, I was surprised that it wasn’t really like I was expecting. The writing especially, wasn’t very good, and there were actually a lot of grammar mistakes that were noticeable. I did like parts of the character’s relationship, however, a lot of the time, the dialogue between them were awkward and forced. It definitely wasn’t as I was expecting.
7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you) and 8. Newest fictional crush.
Casey Mcquiston – author of Red, White and Royal Blue
I don’t have a fictional crush, but instead, one relationship I adore is Alex and Henry from this book. It’s a hate to love trope, and it’s just so adorable!
9. Newest favourite character.
I know I’ve been technically cheating on some these answers, but I don’t connect with characters that easily. But in Water Runs Red, the author, talks about herself and her experiences through poetry. It’s definitely inspiring, and shows how much strength she has despite her struggles. I have a lot of admiration for her.
I’m going to combine 10. Book that made you cry. and 11. Book that made you happy. because the same book is for both of them.
I fell in love with this book the moment I read it, and it made my cry and it made me incredibly happy. It allowed me to connect with the story and gave me all the feels. This was definitely a five star read, and if you haven’t yet, you should read it too!
12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
I haven’t bought many books this year, or received many. I believe I’ve only bought two. The Butterfly Project cover is so beautiful.
13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
One of the books I want to read is Bloom because the plot has me very intrigued, and it’s also a graphic novel and I can already tell I’ll love the art style. I’m just going to go on with what I’m feeling to read besides this book.
